Comments and Feedback in Quixli

Comments are the bridge between reading and editing. They let you leave feedback, ask questions, suggest changes, and have discussions — all anchored to specific parts of the document. Whether you're reviewing a teammate's draft, collecting client feedback on a proposal, or discussing technical details in documentation, comments keep the conversation organized and contextual.

This guide covers how to create, manage, and make the most of Quixli's commenting features.

Adding Comments

There are several ways to add a comment to a page:

Inline Comments (Text Selection)

The most common and useful type. Inline comments are anchored to a specific text selection, so readers can see exactly what the comment refers to:

  1. Select the text you want to comment on by clicking and dragging

  1. Click the comment icon that appears in the floating toolbar, or press Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + M

  1. Type your comment in the text field that appears

  1. Press Enter or click "Comment" to post it

The selected text is highlighted with a colored background, and clicking the highlight reveals the comment thread.

Page-Level Comments

For feedback that applies to the entire page rather than a specific section, use page-level comments. Click the comment icon in the page header to open the comments panel, then type your comment in the text field at the top.

Comment Features

Mentions

Tag specific people in your comments using @name. Start typing @ followed by the person's name, and a dropdown will show matching collaborators. Mentioned people receive a notification (email and in-app) directing them to the comment. This is the most reliable way to get someone's attention on a specific issue.

Threaded Replies

Reply to any comment to create a threaded discussion. Threads keep related messages together, preventing the comment section from becoming a jumbled list. Each thread can be collapsed or expanded independently.

Emoji Reactions

For quick, lightweight responses, add an emoji reaction to any comment. Hover over a comment and click the smiley face icon to choose from common reactions. Reactions are great for acknowledgments ("thumbs up" to confirm you've read something) without cluttering the thread with "OK" or "Got it" replies.

Resolving Comments

When a comment has been addressed — the change was made, the question was answered, or the feedback was incorporated — mark it as resolved:

  • Click "Resolve" on the comment thread. The comment disappears from the inline view but isn't deleted

  • View resolved comments by clicking "Show Resolved" in the comments panel. You can reopen a resolved comment if the issue resurfaces

  • Bulk resolve: In the comments panel, click "Resolve All" to clear all open comments at once. Use this after completing a round of revisions

Pro Tip: When resolving a comment, add a brief reply explaining how you addressed the feedback — for example, "Fixed the typo" or "Restructured this section as suggested." This creates a clear audit trail for future reference.

Filtering and Navigating Comments

For pages with many comments, use the filtering and navigation tools in the comments panel:

  • Filter by status: Show only open comments, only resolved comments, or all comments

  • Filter by author: See comments from a specific person — useful during reviews to address one reviewer's feedback at a time

  • Navigate with arrows: Click the up/down arrows in the comments panel to jump between comments in the document, scrolling the page to each comment's location

Best Practices

  • Be specific: Select the exact text you're commenting on rather than leaving a page-level comment saying "fix the third paragraph." Anchored comments eliminate ambiguity

  • Use mentions for action items: If a comment requires action from a specific person, @mention them. Unmentioned comments are easily overlooked

  • Resolve promptly: Don't let resolved issues linger as open comments. Resolve them as soon as they're addressed to keep the comment count meaningful

  • Keep comments focused: One topic per comment thread. If you have feedback on two different issues in the same paragraph, create two separate comments

Frequently Asked Questions

Can external viewers (without accounts) leave comments?

Yes, if they have Comment or Edit permission. External users (accessed via email share or public link with commenting enabled) can leave comments using their name and email. Their comments appear just like any other comment, with their name and a "Guest" badge.

Are comments included when I export a page?

No. Comments are excluded from PDF, Markdown, and other exports to keep the output clean. If you need to export discussions, copy the relevant comments into the page content before exporting.

Can I delete someone else's comment?

Only page owners and users with Admin permission can delete other people's comments. Users with Comment or Edit permission can only delete their own comments.
