Common Error Messages

Error messages in Quixli are designed to tell you what went wrong and, where possible, how to fix it. However, some messages can be confusing without context. This guide explains the most common error messages, what causes them, and specific steps to resolve each one.

"Permission Denied"

This error appears when you try to perform an action that your current permission level doesn't allow.

Common Causes

  • You have View permission but tried to edit the page

  • You have Edit permission but tried to share or change settings (requires Admin)

  • You're logged into the wrong account — you may have access on a different account

  • The page owner revoked your access since the last time you loaded the page

How to Fix

  • Check your permission level: Look in the page header for a "View Only" or "Can Edit" indicator

  • Request higher access: Contact the page owner and ask them to upgrade your permission

  • Check your account: If you have multiple Quixli accounts, make sure you're logged into the one that has access. Click your avatar in the top-right to see which account you're using

  • Refresh the page: If your permission was recently upgraded, refresh to pick up the new permission level

"Page Not Found"

This error appears when you try to access a page URL that doesn't lead to accessible content.

Common Causes

  • The page was deleted by its owner

  • The page was moved to a different URL (slug was changed)

  • The share link has expired or been revoked

  • You don't have permission to view the page (the server returns "not found" instead of "permission denied" for security)

  • There's a typo in the URL

How to Fix

  • Double-check the URL: Look for typos, extra characters, or a truncated link. Share links sometimes get cut off in emails or chat applications

  • Ask the page owner: Contact the person who shared the link and ask if the page still exists and if the link is current

  • Check your dashboard: If you had access to the page before, it may appear in your "Shared with Me" section in the dashboard

  • Try the collection: If the page was part of a collection, navigate to the collection and look for the page there — it may have been renamed or moved within the collection

"Save Failed"

This error appears when Quixli cannot save your changes to the server.

Common Causes

  • Your internet connection dropped or is unstable

  • Your session has expired (you've been idle for a long time)

  • The server is temporarily overloaded

  • You lost edit permission while editing (owner revoked access)

How to Fix

  • Check your internet connection: Try loading another website. If your connection is down, wait for it to recover — Quixli will automatically retry saving when the connection is restored

  • Don't close the tab: Your unsaved changes are preserved in the browser. Keep the tab open until the save succeeds

  • Refresh the page: If the save keeps failing, refresh the page. Quixli will attempt to merge your unsaved changes with the server version. If there's a conflict, you'll be shown both versions

  • Copy your content: As a last resort, select all content (Cmd/Ctrl + A), copy it (Cmd/Ctrl + C), and paste it into a text file for safekeeping. Then refresh and re-enter your changes

Never Close the Tab

If you see "Save Failed," keep the browser tab open. Your unsaved content exists only in the browser's memory. Closing the tab before the save succeeds means those changes are lost.

"Upload Failed"

This error appears when a file upload (image, video, or document) doesn't complete successfully.

Common Causes

  • The file exceeds the size limit (10MB for images, 100MB for videos)

  • The file format isn't supported

  • Your storage quota is full

  • The internet connection dropped during upload

  • Corporate firewall blocked the upload request

How to Fix

  • Check the file size: Right-click the file and check its size. If it exceeds the limit, compress it before re-uploading

  • Check the format: Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG (images), MP4, WebM (video), and PDF, DOCX (documents). Convert unsupported formats before uploading

  • Check storage quota: Go to Settings > Billing to see your storage usage. If you're at the limit, delete unused files or upgrade your plan

  • Try again: If the upload failed due to a connection issue, simply try again. For large files, use a stable Wi-Fi or wired connection

"Session Expired"

This error appears when your login session has timed out for security purposes.

Common Causes

  • You've been inactive for an extended period (sessions expire after 7 days of inactivity)

  • Your password was changed (all sessions are invalidated)

  • A workspace admin forced a session reset

  • You cleared your browser cookies

How to Fix

  • Log in again: Simply re-enter your email and password. Any unsaved work in the editor is typically preserved if you log back in quickly

  • Enable "Remember Me": Check the "Remember me" box on the login page to extend your session duration to 30 days of inactivity instead of 7

  • Use a password manager: If you're frequently asked to log in, a password manager with auto-fill makes re-authentication quick and painless
