Managing Your Profile
Your Quixli profile is your identity across the platform. It's what collaborators see when you share documents, leave comments, or edit pages in real-time. A complete, up-to-date profile builds trust with your audience and makes collaboration more personal.
This guide walks you through every profile setting, explains how to upload a profile photo, and shows you how to control what information is visible to others.
Accessing Your Profile Settings
To open your profile settings:
- Click your avatar in the top-right corner of any Quixli page
- Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu
- Click "Profile" in the settings sidebar
You'll see your current profile information with editable fields for each setting.
Profile Information
Your profile contains the following fields:
Name
Your first and last name, displayed on your comments, collaboration cursors, and shared content. Keep this professional, especially if you share documents externally — recipients see this name on invitation emails and shared page headers.
Email Address
Your login email address. Changing your email requires verification: Quixli sends a confirmation link to the new address, and the change only takes effect after you click it. Your old email continues to work until the new one is verified.
Email Change
If you change your email, make sure you have access to the new inbox before initiating the change. If you lose access to both old and new email addresses, account recovery becomes difficult.
Profile Photo
Upload a photo that represents you. It appears on your comments, collaboration cursors, and share invitation emails. Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, and WebP, up to 5MB. For best results, use a square image at least 200x200 pixels. If you don't upload a photo, Quixli generates initials-based avatar using your name.
Bio
A short description (up to 160 characters) that appears on your profile page. Use it to describe your role, expertise, or what you use Quixli for — for example, "Technical Writer at Acme Corp" or "Building better documentation for developers."
Website and Social Links
Add links to your personal website, Twitter/X profile, LinkedIn, and GitHub. These appear on your public profile page and help collaborators connect with you outside of Quixli.
Privacy Settings
Quixli gives you control over who can see your profile information:
- Profile Visibility: Choose who can view your profile page — Everyone (public), Only people I've shared with, or Only my team members
- Search Visibility: Toggle whether your profile appears in Quixli's user search. Disabling this means people can only find you if they have your exact email address
- Email Visibility: Control whether your email address is shown on your profile page. Even when hidden, people you've shared documents with can still see your name and avatar
- Activity Status: Toggle whether others can see your online/offline status. When disabled, your presence indicator (the green dot) is hidden from collaborators
Best Practices
- Use a recognizable photo: A clear headshot helps collaborators identify you quickly, especially during real-time collaboration when only your avatar appears next to your cursor
- Keep your name consistent: Use the same name format across your professional tools to avoid confusion — if you go by "Alex" everywhere else, don't use "Alexander" in Quixli
- Update your bio when your role changes: If you move teams, change companies, or take on new responsibilities, update your bio to reflect your current situation
- Review privacy settings after onboarding: When you first create an account, privacy settings default to the most open options. Adjust them to match your comfort level
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have different profiles for different workspaces?
No — your profile is global across all workspaces you belong to. Your name, photo, and bio are the same everywhere. However, you can control visibility settings per-workspace in workspace settings.
What happens to my name on comments if I change it?
Changing your name updates it everywhere retroactively, including on past comments and version history entries. There's no separate "display name" — the name in your profile is used universally.
What file formats are supported for profile photos?
Quixli accepts JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP images up to 5MB. The image is automatically cropped to a square and resized to 256x256 pixels. For best results, upload a square image that's at least 256x256 pixels — this avoids awkward automatic cropping.
How do I find my public profile URL?
Go to Settings > Profile and look for the "Profile URL" field near the bottom of the page. Your public profile URL follows the format quixli.io/@username. You can share this link with others, and they'll see your public bio, photo, and any publicly shared pages.
Can I deactivate my profile without deleting my account?
Yes. In Settings > Profile > Privacy, toggle "Profile Visibility" to "Hidden." Your profile page will show a 404 to external visitors, your name won't appear in search results, and your shared content remains accessible — but it won't link back to your profile.
